The CareWay Dental Guide To Dry Mouth

Many residents in our Lewisville community experience dry mouth occasionally. Some develop dry mouth in social situations or when they are under a lot of stress. Sporadic or infrequent dry mouth is usually not a serious problem. Constant dry mouth, or xerostomia, is not only irritating, it can lead to acute health problems.

Family Dentistry Options

Lewisville people should not take their saliva for granted. Your saliva plays an essential role in maintaining your health. One of its roles is to help digest your food. The moment food enters your mouth, saliva starts breaking it down so your body can metabolize it. If you don’t produce enough saliva to carry out this task your body may not be getting essential nutrients needed to stay healthy.

Saliva also functions as a disinfectant by cleansing the mouth of leftover food, bacteria, and fungi. This helps prevent tooth decay and infections. Many Lewisville residents don’t realize that many of the foods we eat are very acidic and our saliva helps counteract those acids in our mouths.

I am Shelly Verma and my staff and I at CareWay Dental have been treating xerostomia for a long time. I recommend cutting back on caffeine in such drinks as cola, coffee, and tea. Not only do these beverages stain and discolor your teeth, the caffeine can contribute to dry mouth. I also recommend drinking water throughout the day to make sure you are adequately hydrated.

Tobacco and alcohol can also contribute to dry mouth. Consult your Lewisville physician if you are taking medication that is causing your dry mouth.

Dry mouth is not a natural part of aging, so call CareWay Dental today at (214) 750-8000 and schedule an appointment if your dry mouth is getting worse as you grow older.

In today’s CareWay Dental blog I would like to discuss laser dentistry. It may sound scary, but you can find out more about our family dentists and laser dentistry provides an excellent alternative to drills. Many procedures performed with lasers don’t require Lewisville patients to be medicated, allowing for quicker healing times.

Many Lewisville patients become very anxious waiting for a shot of painkiller before a dental procedure. Laser dentistry allows for a more relaxed, less stressful dental visit. My patients also appreciate not going home with a numb mouth and drool dripping down their chin.

Lewisville residents in need of oral surgery will experience less bleeding thanks to laser dentistry. Some of the procedures that are performed with lasers are: infected root canal treatment, gum and bone reshaping, uncovering erupted wisdom teeth, and teeth whitening.

Dental Crowns Restore Lewisville Smiles

A tooth crown is an important general dentistry restoration for rebuilding and protecting damaged and vulnerable teeth. Tooth-colored porcelain crowns maintain the natural, attractive appearance of your smile while restoring the full function and durability of your teeth. To find out if you are a candidate for our Lewisville porcelain dental crowns - which can sometimes be completed in just one appointment

Dental crowns are an effective way to provide strength, durability and stability when restoring your teeth. They are often included in a smile makeover to comprehensively improve the appearance of your smile.

Dental crowns have been around a long time, but they continue to play an important role in Lewisville cosmetic dentistry. A dental crown, often called a cap, covers the visible part of the tooth.

Top Rated Dental Office For Crowns In Lewisville

Dental crowns are used for several problems common among Lewisville cosmetic dentistry patients:

An old crown that is damaged or ill-fitting
A broken tooth
A tooth with extreme decay
A tooth that has had a root canal
A tooth that is too small or misshapen
A tooth that prevents a proper bite

Our all-porcelain teeth crowns have many advantages and are a great way to restore your teeth without negatively affecting the appearance of your smile. Porcelain crowns are matched to the color of your teeth, and they have a translucence and other properties that make them look just like your natural teeth. In the hands of our experienced cosmetic dentists, crowns can be seamlessly incorporated into your smile.

A dental crown serves both structural and aesthetic purposes. It protects a natural tooth from additional decay and damage while permitting normal function. In addition, a dental crown often prevents the need for an extraction and the bone loss that can occur with a missing tooth.

Lewisville cosmetic dentistry patients who get a dental crown should not assume that the tooth is now invincible. Crowns need daily cleaning and flossing just like natural teeth. The remaining tooth structure just around the gumline could still become decayed and the soft tissue around the crown is susceptible to gum disease. Chewing hard foods or using your teeth as a tool can cause a crown to crack or break. (Use scissors to open a stubborn plastic package – don’t bite and pull!) Your Albuquerque cosmetic dentist can advise you on caring for your new crown so that it will last as long as possible. Some of our Albuquerque patients have crowns that are still looking beautiful after ten years.

For information, call CareWay Dental today at (214) 750-8000.

Replace Your Missing Teeth With Dental Implants

If you have missing teeth, it is essential that you replace them. Not only might you be feeling self-conscious about your missing teeth, but there are other issues that go along with missing teeth.

Dental Implants

dental implants at CareWay Dental will change your life

Without all your teeth, chewing and eating can destabilize your bite and cause you discomfort. This generally leads to uneven wear on your remaining teeth, but there is also the propensity for your teeth to start shifting. Ultimately, this can mean you will be dealing with even more missing teeth in the future.

Dental Implants in Lewisville To Replace Missing teeth

Tooth Implants are a great option for replacing missing or badly diseased teeth. A dental implant offers comfort, support, and stability. And hands down, it is as close to a natural tooth that a tooth restoration can be.

There are many benefits to dental implants:

  • Dental implants restore your ability to chew food properly.
    • They fill out a face that may otherwise look sunken in because of missing teeth.
    • They don’t need to be removed for overnight cleaning and soaking.
    • No adhesives are needed.
    • You’ll feel more confident to show off your smile to the world.
    • Each implant is created to fit in perfectly with the look of the rest of your teeth.

Top Rated Dental Implant Dentist Lewisville Tx

Dental implants are not for everyone, but if you’re in good health, have healthy gums, and have enough bone structure to support an implant. A simple visit to our office will reveal if a dental implant is the best option to restore your smile to its absolute best.

Tooth Whitening Fact And Fiction

You have probably seen ads for lightening products contain terms such as “white brite,” “22 carbamide peroxide” and “peroxide teeth.” How do you separate tooth whitening fact from fiction?

Teeth whitening Before and after

tooth whitening dentist in Lewisville Tx

Some tooth whitening dentists will guarantee fantastic results for any patient that desires a whiter smile. At CareWay Dental, we only recommend tooth whitening for patients that are good candidates for the process. We invite you to speak with our amazing staff at our Lewisville office. Not all teeth whitening systems are appropriate for every person.

Don’t be fooled by smile whitening hype and risk poor results. If you have existing cosmetic dental work such as crowns, bonding, partial dentures or bridge work, it is critical to talk to an expert professional about worry-free teeth whitening.

If you have all-natural teeth that are dull or stained, teeth whitening will probably brighten your smile. If you have several crowns in the front of your mouth, veneers, or gums that have receded, conventional tooth-whitening may not be successful.

Porcelain veneers may be a better solution for you. There are several brands of veneers such as Lumineers. The vast majority of our patients that get teeth whitening in Lewisville are happy about the results. Porcelain veneers not only brighten your smile, they can provide many other improvements.

Veneers are sometimes called “instant orthodontics” because they can fix tooth misalignment and gaps as well as grant instant teeth whitening.

For the most dramatic results, with any teeth whitening procedure, we recommend you have your teeth cleaned first. You know you should see a hygienist for cleanings regularly anyway – your oral health may depend on it. Now you have another reason. Plaque, tartar, and bacteria clinging to your teeth create a film that keeps the whitening gel from contacting the tooth surface properly.

Schedule a consultation by calling us at (214) 750-8000. I look forward to meeting you and discussing your unique smile.

4 Life Changing Steps To Happy Teeth

Healthy teeth that work as nature intended are vital for a high quality of life and overall health. Dallas folks who live with dentures know what I’m talking about. So visit our dentists in Lewisville, Tx at CareWay Dental

There is no question that dentures are preferable to a completely toothless mouth, but they are not problem free. Your mouth delivers numerous basic functions, each of which can be impaired by the headaches of dentures.

Dentures can make it difficult to chew and taste food. It’s embarrassing to talk when they are slipping around in your mouth and laughing can dislodge them entirely. They can even make it hard to breathe – and it doesn’t get more basic than that.

Our Lewisville dental office

Come visit us at our office in Lewisville, Tx.

Even if you have had dentures for many years, you may be a candidate for dental implants. Dental implants are an uncommonly versatile custom-made replacement for dentures.

Dental implants can be used to replace several teeth and/or anchor over dentures. Mini dental implants (also called denture-stabilization implants) allow your dentist to securely attach an appliance so that it won’t slip or irritate gums. Small titanium posts are implanted into the jawbone and fuse with the surrounding bone, creating a tough base for an over denture. Get your teeth implants with Dr. Verma.

Here is the process:

1. Examination and Assessment
During your first visit, your dentist will take x-rays and evaluate your mouth and the condition of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. Your dentist will analyze options with you and together you will develop a treatment plan.

2. Implant Placement
A complete tooth implant and restoration consists of the actual implant or root replacement, an abutment, and final restoration. The first step is to insert the titanium alloy implant into your jawbone. This is not as difficult or painful as it sounds. Most patients are surprised at how quick and easy the procedure is.

3. Integration
Implant surgery would not be successful if your jawbone did not welcome an artificial and non-biological tooth root. Amazingly, in the vast majority of cases, the jawbone tightly fuses with the implant to design an extremely substantial foundation for the final restoration. It takes from three to six months for your jawbone to work its extraordinary magic.

4. Final Restoration
Whether your final step is a crown, bridge, or denture, your dentist will work with the lab to manufacture a beautiful and functional restoration. A connecting piece called an abutment attaches the restoration to the artificial root(s). The crown, bridge, or denture is all that is visible at the end of the process. Dental implant restorations are virtually indistinguishable from initial teeth.

Dental implant patients of all ages are excited about the greater quality of life implants deliver.

Are breathing, speaking, eating, tasting, and laughing important to you? Call us to schedule a consultation.
